Thailand Awaits…

For those that follow this blog, this may come as a surprise, but to those who know us personally, well, you know that we never shy away from adventure. Especially if it means following the promptings of God and where we believe He is asking us to go. That means our lives have been in a state of flux and change. This blog will continue in its current form, but we have also started a separate newsletter dedicated solely to our work in Thailand and the beautiful country and people of Thailand.  With that said, below is a quick snapshot of what we will be doing over the next years.

The Quick 411

  • This Summer, our family will be moving to Phuket Thailand. Planned departure is early August.
  • We will be working with the Christian and Missionary Alliance of Canada, which is the great denomination we get to serve in and that we are currently part of with our church family at Beulah Alliance Church.
  • We have signed on for a 4 year term as an initial serve.
  • We have been given the mandate to learn the language (need prayer for that one please) and also begin to research ways the Alliance can be involved in the area of social justice in that area. We are praying for God to show us how He would best use our gifts and abilities in this area. We are also excited to be joining a new international church that is just forming in Phuket and to join our past ministry experience with the leaders already serving. (You can follow along with All Nations Church here)

If this topic and this part of the world is something that has been on your heart for sometime or is something that is just beginning to stir within you, we would like to journey with you.  Here are three ways you can follow along and participate.

  1. Pray
    • We cannot over emphasize this. We have been reminded again and again over these last few weeks that none of this is about earthly issues but heavenly ones and that we need strong prayer support. Please add us to your prayer list, on your fridge, car, etc.
      • For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12
  2. Help Spread the News
    • Helping us share our adventure with other like-minded people is crucial. If you have, friends, family or colleagues that may have a heart for justice work, ministry and this part of the world, could you share our newsletter with them? We are praying for strategic partners. You may be the one? We know that we cannot do this without the church, the body of Christ, and people on mission to make a difference in this world.

A Final Thought:

A few weeks ago I shared a sermon at Beulah about an “Obedience that Goes Beyond”. You can listen to it here.  I’ve continued to ponder the statement of Peter to Jesus, “Because you say so, I will” (#BYSSIW) and the impact this type of obedience unleashes in the life of a follower of Christ (Luke 5). Peter had no clue what the plan and outcome of his life would be, but he knew that Jesus was trustworthy and he obeyed, even though it didn’t make a lot of earthly sense at the time…and because of Jesus, the world was never the same again.

Today, I wonder, what is God asking you to do? What is the small step that you can take to obey and honour Him.  He is worthy and it is simply unbelievable that He chooses to use us, and yet He does and He has gifted you for such a time as this.  Would our response always be, “Jesus, because you say so, I will.

The best is yet to come,

Darren & Naomi
